Located approximately 3 kilometres from the centre of Brisbane, Fortitude Valley has transformed itself from an inner city suburb with industrial roots, to a smart, high-end lifestyle precinct that is now a highly desirable place to be.
James Street is the most prominent street in this area and is home to many of the very best shops, restaurants, cafés and bars that Brisbane has to offer.
The street has a uniquely Queensland tropical feel with large trees, vines and lots of greenery complimented by the contemporary architecture of the buildings. It’s home to the best Australian Designer brands such as ‘Zimmerman’, ‘Camilla’, ‘Aesop’, ‘Dion Lee’ and ‘Scanlan Theodore’. Make sure you pay a visit to two of my favourite boutiques in the street, known for their mix of international designer brands - ‘ Calexico’ (womens, mens and accessories) and ‘Maryon’s’ (shoes).
The stunning ‘Calile Hotel’ is also located on James Street and is the perfect place to stay in Brisbane (see STAY) and for enjoying this area. Directly opposite the hotel you will find a ‘Palace Cinema’ complex. Why not watch a movie and then enjoy drinks and dinner at one of the excellent bars and restaurants along James Street such as ‘Harvey’s’, ‘CRU Bar and Cellar’ or nearby ‘LONgTIME’ for delicious Thai food.
Make sure you also check out ‘James Street Market’ for the freshest produce and excellent sushi from ‘Fresh Sushi Co’. I also suggest you spend time exploring all of the adjacent streets which are also full of great cafés, restaurants, shops and design stores. Brisbane, you’ve come a long way baby!
