The Artist Residence Oxfordshire is now an authentic, charming ‘gastropub’ with 7 stylish rooms to choose from. Ours was cosy and welcoming with a large king-size bed set under the timbered eaves overlooking the lovely fields of the surrounding countryside.
It’s super quiet and relaxing here which makes for a peaceful weekend escape.
They’ve retained the full character of the building, and the interior design is luxurious, eclectic and quirky with amazing attention to detail. I loved the vintage pieces in our room such as the old telephone, transistor radio and the other small, homely touches such as the plate of delicious chocolate chip cookies waiting for us!
We enjoyed our free-standing bath set next to a window overlooking the garden, and the cosy, velvet covered armchairs in our room – perfect for curling up in late afternoon to relax and read a book.
The staff were so welcoming and lovely in every way – it was great to meet the one of the owners (Charlie), and to learn more about the other Artist Residence properties they have and the story behind their amazing business.
The location is excellent for an easy weekend escape from London. Catch the direct train to Oxford from Paddington Station (just over an hour from London) and then pick up a rental car in Oxford to drive the final 9 miles there. It’s essential to have a car when you’re here as there is so much to see and explore in this area such as the Cotswolds and the awe-inspiring Blenheim Palace.
